Global Ports Holding (GPH), the world’s largest cruise port operator, has once again brought together its global network to mark the International Coastal Cleanup Day, with teams across its ports taking part in coordinated cleanup activities under the “From Port to Port, It’s in Our Hands” initiative.
GPH united its employees, local communities, stakeholders, and cruise industry partners in a shared effort to protect coastal environments and raise awareness of marine pollution. More than 350 volunteers and 32 partners, including cruise lines, local NGOs and other stakeholders, contributed to 30 hours of cleanup activities, collecting approximately 11 tons of waste from beaches, shorelines and surrounding coastal areas. Participants also gathered data to support marine pollution research, extending the initiative’s contribution beyond the cleanup itself. The collective effort highlighted the role that ports, local communities and industry partners can play in supporting to protect coastal environments.
Mehmet Kutman, Chairman & CEO of Global Ports Holding, said: “The long-term success of our industry is closely linked to the health of our seas and the prosperity of the communities we serve. As the world’s largest cruise port operator, we have a responsibility to turn our global reach into meaningful local action. ‘From Port to Port, It’s in Our Hands’ demonstrates what we can achieve when our teams, communities and industry partners work towards a shared goal. I am proud of everyone who contributed their time and commitment, reinforcing that protecting our coastlines is a responsibility we share every day.”
Sustainability remains an integral part of GPH’s approach to port operations and development. GPH’s sustainability strategy is built around three key pillars: minimizing environmental impact, empowering and supporting local communities, and advancing responsible growth.
Through initiatives such as “From Port to Port, It’s in Our Hands,” GPH continues to bring its ports and local partners together around a common environmental objective. Insights and data gathered through this year’s activities will also contribute to GPH’s sustainability reporting and help inform future coastal protection initiatives across its network.
