Acapulco Cruise Port recently unveiled its new brand identity during a special event, marking an important milestone in the transformation of the port and the destination’s renewed positioning within the international cruise industry.
The new logo draws inspiration from one of Acapulco’s most recognizable symbols. Its central image features the iconic cliff divers of La Quebrada, whose courage, skill and tradition have captivated visitors for generations, set above the dramatic rock formations and waves that define Acapulco’s coastline. The vibrant turquoise colour reflects the waters of Acapulco Bay. Together, these elements create a distinctive identity that celebrates Acapulco’s heritage while expressing confidence in the future of its cruise tourism sector.
The event brought together representatives of the Government of the State of Guerrero, the Administración del Sistema Portuario Nacional Acapulco, S.A. de C.V. (ASIPONA Acapulco), Global Ports Holding (GPH), Acapulco Cruise Port, tourism stakeholders, and members of the local community.
The unveiling follows the signing of a 24-year concession agreement between GPH and ASIPONA Acapulco for the operation and development of Acapulco Cruise Port. The agreement represents the first GPH cruise port concession in Mexico and establishes a long-term framework for strengthening Acapulco’s role within cruise itineraries along the Mexican Riviera and West Coast of the Americas.
Covadonga Gómez Huerta, Undersecretary of Tourism Services, speaking on behalf of Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda, said:
“Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda recognizes this project as a tremendous opportunity to strengthen Guerrero’s tourism sector, attract more visitors and create greater prosperity for families throughout the state. The unveiling of the new identity for Acapulco Cruise Port represents far more than a new look; it signals the beginning of a new era for cruise tourism and an important step toward reinforcing Acapulco’s position as one of Mexico’s premier destinations. Global Ports Holding’s decision to invest in Acapulco sends a powerful message to the international tourism industry. As the world’s largest cruise port management company, its commitment reflects confidence in the destination’s potential and demonstrates that Acapulco is ready to write an exciting new chapter in its history.”
Vice Admiral (Ret.) Raymundo Sánchez López, General Director of ASIPONA Acapulco, said:
“The new identity of Acapulco Cruise Port represents a new chapter for the Port of Acapulco and reflects the shared commitment between ASIPONA Acapulco and Global Ports Holding to promote a forward-looking project for our city. In this context, we welcome Maestro Emilio Vázquez Villanueva as General Manager of Global Ports Holding in Acapulco, with whom we will continue working in close coordination to consolidate this important project.”
Mike Maura, Jr., Regional Director, Americas, Global Ports Holding, said:
“Today marks an important milestone in the valued partnership between GPH, ASIPONA, and the good people of Acapulco. This handover signifies the strong collaboration and partnership between ASIPONA and GPH and our shared commitment to Acapulco’s cruise tourism sector. We are thrilled to be here in Acapulco and are excited with what the future holds.”
Under the concession agreement, GPH will operate and progressively invest across an approximately 17,199-square-metre concession area. Planned improvements will focus on modernizing the cruise terminal, improving passenger flow, enhancing operational efficiency and safety, upgrading retail and food and beverage offerings, and elevating the overall experience for guests arriving in Acapulco.
GPH will also work with cruise lines, government partners, and local tourism stakeholders to develop new destination experiences and shoreside concepts that celebrate Acapulco’s culture, cuisine, heritage, and natural beauty while creating meaningful opportunities for local businesses and communities.
In parallel, ASIPONA Acapulco is constructing a new 350-metre cruise pier, funded through public resources and currently scheduled for completion during the first quarter of 2027. The new infrastructure is expected to strengthen the port’s capacity to accommodate larger, modern cruise vessels and support the long-term growth of the destination’s cruise tourism sector.
Clarivette Diaz, Regional Director, Latin America, Global Ports Holding, said:
“This new identity communicates our confidence in Acapulco and our ambition for the future of its cruise sector. Acapulco has an extraordinary tourism legacy, a rich maritime history and a cultural identity that is recognized around the world. Working closely with ASIPONA, the Government of Guerrero, our cruise line partners and the local community, we intend to build upon those strengths and create a port experience that is modern, welcoming, and unmistakably Acapulco.”
The event also recognized the appointment of Emilio Vázquez Villanueva as General Manager of Acapulco Cruise Port. Vázquez Villanueva will lead the local GPH team and work closely with ASIPONA Acapulco, government agencies, cruise lines, and community stakeholders to guide port operations and phased development.
The new Acapulco Cruise Port brand will be introduced across the port’s communications, digital platforms, signage, and guest-facing materials as the project progresses.
